Pictorial: Eight die as truck falls on bus at Ojuelegba

  A truck fell on a commercial bus at Ojuelegba, inwards Fadeyi, Lagos State, on Sunday, claiming eight lives. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officials were seen trying to rescue the victims. According to the agency, efforts were being made to rescue the victims. “A container laden truck has fallen on a bus at Ojuelegba, inwards Fadeyi. The effort is currently being made towards rescue and evacuation,” the statement by the Permanent Secretary of the agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, read. “Recovery of the fallen container is still ongoing, though it has been taken off on top of the minibus but is yet to be completely removed from the location, traffic is still on hold, and we have a backlog of traffic presently at Alaka. “Kindly exercise patience or find an alternative if you are not trapped in the traffic,” he added. Old Naira Notes: Senate asks CBN to extend deadline to May 31

The Senate yesterday asked the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN to extend the deadline for the exchange of old naira notes from the January 31 deadline to May 31, 2023. The Senate has also urged the CBN to open an exchange window where people that don’t have bank accounts to deposit their old notes. The resolution of the Senate was a sequel to a motion by Senator Sadiq Umar, APC, Kwara North who demanded an extension to July 31, just as he was worried by the insistence of the apex bank that there would be no such extension. Recall that CBN  had on October last year, said the old naira notes would seize to be legal tender as of January 31, but the Senate in December passed a resolution urging the CBN to extend the deadline to June 30. There was pandemonium in the Ojota area of Lagos on Monday as personnel of the Nigeria Police Force reportedly killed two people during the Yoruba Nation agitators’ rally. Suspect nabbed over abduction of 32 passengers at Edo train station

  A suspect linked to the abduction of 32 passengers from a train station in Igueben, Edo state, on Saturday January 7, has been arrested.   Commenting on the abduction, Edo state commissioner for communication and orientation, Chris Nehikhare said 32 passengers were initially abducted, but one passenger managed to escape. Five others have also been rescued.   A so urce told Daily Trust;    “Five different persons have been rescued so far. The kidnappers were forced to release the minors who they felt couldn’t move fast due to the intensity of the security operatives, especially the hunters who were in the bush.”   Nehikhare further revealed that the arrested suspect is now being questioned.
